Step-by-step instructions to apply for the CSC Scholarship

Here’s a step-by-step, easy-to-follow guide on how you can use the CSC Scholarship to finance your studies in China!

CSC scholarships are among the most frequently awarded scholarships to overseas students. They are provided thru CSC, the Chinese Scholarship Council. This kind of scholarship offered by the government is a project by China’s Ministry of Education. The Chinese Ministry of Education encourages cultural, educational, and political cooperation and understanding between other nations and China. CSC scholarships can be awarded in part or fully funded.

CSC cannot offer MBA programs, MBBS programs (MBBS has very few scholarships), or those that charge very costly tuition.

CSC scholarships aren’t the only scholarships available, and there are numerous other types of scholarships.

First step: Locate an institution that is offering CSC Scholarships. CSC Scholarship

2. Decide the type of scholarship you’ll be applying for.

An umbrella can be described as a CSC Scholarship. In reality, there are various scholarships you could apply for.

CSC Program Category Type B = Chinese University Program Scholarship Applications for Typ B will be evaluated by the applying institutions. Candidates for the Chinese University Program may apply to 3 universities.

CSC Program Category Type Type A: non-university scholarships. The applicants for these programs need to fill in their “Agency Number” of the appropriate institution accepting the application (such as the Chinese Embassy within a specific country). Their applications will be evaluated by the institution that accepts them. For example, bilateral programs The Great Wall Program, the European Union Program, the ASEAN University Network Program, the Pacific Islands Forum Program, the World Meteorological Organization Program, the Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship, the MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program, and the Marine Scholarship of China program are all of Type A. Students who apply to the Chinese Embassy may apply to two universities.

Overall age requirement for CSC scholarship: Bachelor: 18-25

Master: 18-35

Ph.D.: 18–40

Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Program

Eligibility:

  • Non-Chinese citizens
  • The Bilateral Program assists graduate students, general scholars, and senior scholars. Consult the dispatching authorities in your home country to determine the available types.
  • Aged less than 50 (check the link on the website to find specific guidelines)

Application Period

  • The specific Chinese Embassy embassies the date of the deadline, but generally, between January and February, it could close quite early.

Where to Apply:

  • Request the dispatching authority to arrange for study abroad in the country of your home country.
  • After being accepted, you can apply for admission to the university you want to attend and fill out an online application via the CSC website.

Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Program

Eligibility:

  • This scholarship only aids graduate students.

Application Period

  • The application period is from January to March 31.

Where to Apply:

  • Apply to the school you wish to attend and fill out an online application via the CSC website. Submit all the required documents to the institution.

Eligibility

  • This program supports only seniors and general scholars of emerging countries (master’s and Ph.D.). This program is only for the public scholar and senior scholars in developing countries (master and doctoral studies)

Application Period

  • It is necessary to apply between January 1 and April 1.

Where to Apply:

  • Contact CSC, the National Commission for UNESCO in your home country, to apply for the CGS possibility. After being accepted as a potential candidate, apply to the university you want to attend as a pre-admission setter and submit an application thru CSC’s website. CSC website

EU Program

Eligibility

  • This program assists graduate students, general scholars, and senior scholars in EU members.

Application Period

  • The application deadline is between the beginning of January and early April.

Where to Apply

  • The application process is thru your local Office for Education and Culture, the Mission of the People’s Republic of China, to the European Union. Please apply to the university you want to attend to receive the pre-admission letter once the sending authorities recommend it as an eligible candidate. Then, you must complete your application on the CSC website.
  • You can find the request for applications for 2022/2023’s school year on the website of the Mission once it’s posted.

PIF Program

Eligibility

  • The program assists undergraduate and graduate students, general scholars, and senior scholars in Pacific Island nations (specifically PIF members).

Application Period

  • The application deadline is between the beginning of January and early April.

Where to Apply

  • Apply to the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat. Apply to the university you want to attend for the Pre-admission Letter after being accepted by the dispatching authority as an eligible candidate. Then, you must complete your application on the CSC website. Send all the documents you have submitted to the PIF Secretariat before the deadline.

AUN Program

Eligibility

  • This scholarship is only available to master’s students in ASEAN members: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Application Period

  • You must apply between November to January.

Where to Apply

WMO (World Meteorological Organization) Program

Eligibility

  • This program helps undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in their meteorology studies.
  • Two universities that have been designated as part of these programs are Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology and Hohai University.
  • The main topics are restricted to hydrology, meteorology, and water resources monitoring and management.

Application Period

  • The application deadline is between the beginning of November and next February.

Where to Apply

  • You must apply for admission to WMO Secretariat. Apply to the university you want to attend for the Pre-admission Letter after receiving a recommendation from WMO Secretariat as an eligible candidate. Apply online on the CGS website. Submit all the documentation to the WMO Secretariat.

Marine Scholarship of China

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a citizen of a non-Chinese nationality, in good health, from a country with a coastline or island, South China Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific, and the surrounding islands, and an African, developing American country.
  • The applicant must apply for the postgraduate program for ocean-related specialty areas.
  • Any applicant currently working in oceanographic and related industries will be prioritized.
  • The institutions that offer this scholarship include Xiamen University, Zhejiang University, Ocean University of China, Tongji University.

Application Period

  • All year long, between January 1 and April 30

Where to Apply

  • The CSC administers and awards this scholarship. Therefore, you must apply through the CSC website.

MOFCOM Scholarship

Eligibility

  • MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program assists in master’s degree programs lasting 2-3 years or Ph.D. programs for three years. The recipients of the scholarship must enroll in an English-taught course.
  • The applicant must be a resident of a country in the developing world apart from China. The people’s Republic of China must be under the age of 45.
  • At minimum three years of working experience and be an undergraduate degree holder when applying for the master’s program and be a master’s holder when applying for doctoral programs;
  • Candidates with an appropriate academic background or prior experience in the program they are applying to are preferred. They should be public officials at the divisional level or over (or equivalent grades) in the government sector or the senior management team of companies and businesses or the academic backbones of research and universities;
  • Have a good level of English that meets the academic requirements of the course, be at a level equivalent in the IELTS 6.0 OR TOEFL 80 or higher;
  • They are capable of developing professionally and are dedicated to promoting positive exchanges and cooperation among the hosts and China;
  • Not studying in China and not being accepted into other scholarship programs run by the Chinese government.

Application Period

  • The Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office (ECCO) of the Chinese Embassy in your country will be accepting applications to applications. Check with the application accepting authority to determine the deadline for every year.

Where to Apply

  • The applicants should seek the relevant department’s approval before applying for the scholarship in the country of their choice.
  • For those applicants whose government permits them to send the applications directly to the Chinese Embassy, please get the approval or recommendation from your government of your host country that states that the student is approved for study in China and provide all documentation in the direction of the ECCO of the Chinese Embassy in the land of residence.

China Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship

Eligibility

  • CSRS offers promising trade union leaders who have relevant work experience from countries that are part of the “Belt and Road” to learn the Chinese Language in PRC for one year at Beijing Language and Culture University
  • A high school diploma at a minimum and not older than 45 years old;
  • With at least one year of working experience, and most importantly, prior experience dealing with China-related issues;
  • There is no concurrent awardee for the Chinese state-sponsored scholarship.

Application Period

  • It is necessary to apply between January 1 and March 1.

Where to Apply

  • Complete an application form and upload the relevant documents to the CSC website.

Confucius Institute Scholarships (CIS)

Eligibility

  • Confucius Institutes Scholarships are for Chinese language learners and Chinese language teachers.
  • For Chinese language learners, The application is open to those who hold non-Chinese nationals, Between 16 and 35 years old, in good health. (Applicant who is currently employed in a Chinese job in language teaching must not be over 40 years of age. Students in undergraduate programs must not be over the age limit of 20 years old.)
  • To earn a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese to speakers of other Languages, Candidates must be non-Chinese citizens who are below 25years old and possess high school certificates or more; applicants must have a minimum score of the HSK score of 180 (level 3.) or 60 on the HSKK (intermediate level)
  • For a Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to People of Other Languages, the applicants must be non-Chinese citizens under 35 and hold at least a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. Candidates must have at least 180 on the HSK (level five) or 60 on the HSKK (intermediate level)

Application Period

Online registration is available beginning March 1 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application site (cis. Chinese)

  • For students planning to start lessons in July, the last day to register is April 15.
  • For students who intend to begin class in September, the last day to register is May 15.
  • For students planning to start a course in December, the last day to register is September 15.
  • For students who intend to begin the study in March, the cut-off date is the mid-November

Where to Apply

  • The process for obtaining scholarships differs for Chinese language learners as well as Chinese teachers of Chinese; you must go to the link above and review the particular scholarships you’re interested in.
  • In general, you will need to log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarships website (http://cis.chinese.cn) to register, complete the Confucius Institute Scholarships Application Form online, and upload the scanned copies of relevant supporting documents.
  • If you have to provide recommendations, these are the acceptable institutions to recommend:
    • Confucius Institutes and Confucius classrooms have been in operation for over six months. For more details, please visit www.hanban.org.
    • Centers for testing the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) are authorized to suggest Confucius Institute Scholarship candidates. For more information, go to www—Chinese test.
    • Overseas-based organizers of the Chinese Bridge Competition include education and cultural offices (groups), China’s overseas embassies (consulates), the Confucius Institute, and other relevant educational institutions. For further information, please consult Chinesebridge@hanban.org.

Third step: Determine your agency’s number

If you are trying to apply for CSC scholarships, when you apply for the CSC Scholarship to pursue studies in China, you will have to provide the agency number of the school providing the scholarship.

4. Create your documents

It would be best if you looked up the websites of the scholarships you are interested in to determine the exact requirements for the documents. But, these are the fundamental ones that you must be prepared for:

The SS Marine Scholarship candidates require an application for joint training in conjunction with institutions of their choice. The applicant must fill out their application online in Chinese or English for joint training.

Step 5: Submit your documents

Make photocopies of all documents to keep for documentation. Papers must be submitted to responsible authorities by the deadline.

Note down to who you have to submit your documents to first. Then, another authority must select you before submitting your application to the university or the CSC website for specific scholarships. Be sure to complete all steps correctly!
